Program Manager

MapLight, an innovative, award-winning nonprofit that tracks money’s influence on politics, is seeking a Program Manager for Voter’s Edge, our groundbreaking online voter guide. Developed in partnership with the League of Women Voters California (LWVC). Voter’s Edge is a “one-stop-shop” for comprehensive, nonpartisan information about candidates and ballot measures, equipping voters with the information they need to feel confident they are voting in their own best interests. During the 2016 election, we helped approximately two million voters by providing timely, unbiased information on local, state, and federal elections.

In this role, you will ensure we deliver accurate information and a superior user experience to Voter’s Edge users, with an eye toward making improvements that will increase our impact. We’re looking for a strong communicator who has experience working with diverse data sets and a passion for civic technology.


  • Coordinate with the LWVC and other local partners who will populate the site with content for each new election; provide assistance with training issues; escalate technical issues
  • Manage relationships with media partners who incorporate Voter’s Edge into their websites: recommend best practices, communicate milestones around each election, and coordinate social media releases
  • Ensure accuracy of the information provided by MapLight, including address-to-voting-district information, districts-to-offices, office descriptions, voting rights, measure content, translations, and other content not maintained by the League of Women Voters
  • Coordinate deadlines and testing schedules with MapLight’s data team to ensure accuracy of the campaign finance data in Voter’s Edge
  • Collect data, correct inaccuracies, and publish updates for some data sets. Coordinate work with the technical team to keep data updated and accurate
  • Provide quality assurance reviews when software changes are introduced. Perform user tests and recommend changes as needed
  • Coordinate communications strategy with MapLight's communications team
  • Marketing and promotion of Voter’s Edge, including administration of our AdWords account
  • Find insights into site usage and recommend improvements based on analytics data
  • Track qualitative performance metrics to measure the effectiveness of operational strategies and show the impact of Voter’s Edge
  • Work with MapLight’s executive team to identify targeted long-term revenue sources


  • Experience in a data, research, or project administration role
  • Proven ability to track deadlines and progress toward meeting them
  • Working knowledge of elections, politics, and government at the federal, state, and local levels
  • Experience working with data and spreadsheets; advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Comfort working independently while maintaining focus and accuracy
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively and logically convey data
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Computer savvy and web savvy

  • Willingness to pitch in wherever needed on a small, agile team
